Classroom Culture

In our program, we believe that children thrive when they feel a sense of belonging. I create a safe space for children to learn through experiences.

 

Together, we create a learning community that values kindness, communication, and curiosity. Preschoolers learn what it means to be a part of a community. We solve problems and practice managing emotions. Both teachers and children initiate learning opportunities.

 

The classroom is intentionally designed to help spark engaging, meaningful, and joyful learning experiences.

Child-Centered Learning

Preschoolers have a natural curiosity to explore the world around them. We provide an engaging space intentionally designed to enable them to learn at their own pace. Changes in the environment reflect their growth and interests. Our learning areas offer thematic activities that allow them to examine new topics. As they show interest, we dive deep into those topics that matter to them, making learning fun and purposeful. We aim to foster a love for learning that will stay with them for life.

What We Value

Process Art

In the art center, preschoolers are improving fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness skills. Often, this work requires precise planning and execution of movements and, most rewarding, freedom of expression. Process art allows children to explore materials without the pressure of creating an adult created model. It provides preschoolers with a space to explore themselves with little limitations.

Loose Parts Play

The idea of "loose parts" came from an architect named Simon Nicholson. He stated, "In any environment, both the degree of inventiveness and creativity and the possibility of discovery are directly proportional to the number and kind of variables in it."

This open-ended play allows preschoolers access to various materials without expectations or guidance. Free exploration allows the imagination to soar. It will enable preschoolers to work on math and science concepts, tangible materials bringing ideas to life, offering critical thinking practice and problem-solving skills. 

 

Having loose parts in the backyard allows preschoolers to redesign their play space, ensuring endless possibilities. Preschoolers move materials to the block area in class to create complex world-building and storytelling scenarios. These activities promote cognitive development, confidence, and creativity.

Nature

Nature is integral to our curriculum, fostering sensory experiences and a love for our environment. The outdoor play area is an extension of our classroom, and we will spend much time outside, regardless of the weather.

​

Preschoolers will learn how to grow plants from seed to harvest and become aware of the different qualities of each passing season. Giving children an opportunity to grow food will give them an understanding of where food comes from and instill a sense of responsibility and environmental awareness. 

 

Our ample outdoor space is perfect for physical development and social skill building, from the covered mud kitchen area to the whimsical play house and fairy garden. 

Gardening

Family Support

As our program grows, so will the family support services we offer. We will partner with organizations to provide families with specialized support for the topics that matter by offering training and discussion groups here at our location or at locations within our community. We can also help connect families to local resources.
